A ranking Marine official has come out with a video calling for the ouster of President Aquino. The call was to replace the Aquino government which he accused of making false promises to the people.
Col. Generoso Mariano, incumbent deputy commander of the Naval Reserve Command, lambasted the government for inaction in the continuing increases in the prices of food and rising poverty.
Mariano said that as soldiers, members of the AFP also feel the hardships brought about by non-stop increases in prices of basic commodities, such as food and medicines, with the government not being able to do anything about it or does not have the intention of addressing the problem.
“It is the duty, it is the right of every Filipino, including soldiers, to replace the government, I repeat replace the government. Let us, the people, not be fooled by those (officials) who give false promises.
Let us no longer believe the statistics that are doctored saying that the country and the economy are in good health while too many have gone hungry. Let us fight for the right to live under improved conditions and ensure that the future of our youth is progressive and our desire to live under a regime of truth, peace and prosperity,” said Mariano.
“Let us once and for all build a nation based on truth for without it there can be no justice, and without justice we shall have no peace and without peace there will be no development.
“In ending, may I quote our national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal who said that, and I quote. ‘if we have had bad leaders today and in the past, it is not the fall of the many who know less but the fall of the few who know more but do nothing or who do not do enough’ unquote,” said Mariano.
With this act, Navy chief Vice Admiral Alexander Pama immediately ordered Mariano under restriction in his quarters at the Marine headquarters in Fort Bonifacio.
“I put him under restriction effective this morning (Friday),” said Pama.
Asked if President Aquino already knew of the issue, Pama replied “I submitted the report to the chief of staff (Gen. Eduardo Oban Jr.) I don’t know if he got it already.”
Pama said he also created an investigative team to the matter.
“We will investigate what was motive behind the video…there was no issue against the Navy or the AFP,” said Pama, noting that Mariano is set to retire on July 17 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age of 56.
Pama, however, downplayed speculations that Mariano has other supporters in the military but such will be covered by the investigation to be led by Marine deputy commandant Brig. Gen. Eugenio Clemen.
“There is no indicator…I don’t think it will (snowball),” said Pama.
This was the first time that an active AFP officer is coming out to criticize the one-year-old administration of Aquino.
